SIBU: A contractor suffered RM7,660 in loss after making a non-existent loan in a desperate attempt to cover medical costs.

Police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit stated that the 64-year-old man had responded to a personal loan advertisement on Facebook on December 18, last year.

“The man contacted the company and communicated with the financial agent, requesting for an RM10,000 loan to cover his medical costs,” he said in a statement today.

A few hours later, the agent informed him that his loan was successfully approved and instructed him to make an up-front payment to process the approved loan.

“The complainant then made 14 transfer transactions to several accounts provided by the suspect starting from December 18 till Jan 18 that had totalled up to RM7,660,” he said.

Stanley said that the senior citizen was asked to make more payments but refused after feeling cheated.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for fraud.
