KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a contract worker RM2,500 in default five months in prison for possessing an imitation pistol last month.
Muhammad Nazreen Ikhmal Umar, 22 from Kota Samarahan, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to the charge under Section 36 (1) of the Arms Act 1960, which provides for imprisonment for a term of up to one year or a fine up to RM5,000 or both, upon conviction.
The offence was committed in a room at a boarding house at Jalan Stakan, at around 11.45 am on Dec 31, 2024.
According to the case facts, a police team raided the house due to suspicions of a firearm possession. During the raid, the police broke down the door of the room, where they found a man and a woman on the bed.
A search of the room led to the seizure of an imitation pistol, a magazine clip, a bullet case, three smartphones, a set of keys, and a saloon car.
Nazreen himself directed the police to the imitation pistol, which was found on a table in the room.
In addition, a report from the Weaponry Branch of the Sarawak Logistics and Technology Department confirmed that the pistol was imitation.
Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case, while Nazreen was unrepresented by counsel.
