KUCHING: The Sarawak Marine Police seized illicit cigarettes and beer worth more than RM100,000 including unpaid taxes on Thursday.
Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said the Ops Landai Covid-19 raid was carried out at 4.05pm on a premises in Jalan Setia Raja, Tabuan Jaya.
The team inspected the premises and found 103,000 cigarette sticks and 158 boxes of beer of various brands.
“All the goods, valued at RM103,960.20 were seized and a 40-year-old man was also arrested for allegedly possessing the contraband goods,” he said.
He added that both the suspect and seized items were handed over to Kuching CID for further action.
Shamsol said the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
