KUCHING: The Marine Police Force (PPM) Region 5 successfully seized various types of untaxed cigarettes and liquor worth approximately RM724,570 in an operation at a business premises in Kota Padawan.
PPM Region 5 Commander, ACP Ab Rahman Mat Hasan, said that the operation, conducted at 1 am, was based on intelligence gathered by the Marine Intelligence Unit (URM) under Op Taring Landai.
“A team from URM detained a local man at Titan Ventures Company, located at No. 40, Jalan Penrissen, Mile 10 Bazaar, Kota Padawan,” he said in a press release.
An inspection revealed that the premises stored a large quantity of various brands of liquor and cigarettes that were untaxed and lacked the official duty stamps from the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
The suspect was arrested, and the case has been handed over to the Investigating Officer from the Criminal Investigation Division (BJSJ) of the Padawan District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further investigation under **Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967**.
If convicted, individuals found in possession of prohibited goods may face a maximum fine of RM500,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
