MATU: Residents of Kampung Jemoreng are facing an unusual and prolonged flood situation due to continuous water overflow since the beginning of the year.

The situation has worsened as areas that rarely experience flooding, including the main road of Kampung Jemoreng-Bawang, have also been affected.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity & Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya said the overflowing water has caused stagnant flooding around Kampung Jemoreng, disrupting the daily activities of residents.

“The issue stems from water overflow from Passin area, where plantations have been established.

“The water then enters the roadside drains of the Jemoreng-Passin road project and flows towards Kampung Jemoreng,” he said following an inspection on the situation on Wednesday.

To address the issue, several measures have been proposed, including discussions with plantation operators in Passin to ensure water from the plantations is directed straight into Sungai Batang Lassa.

In addition, the roadside drainage system of the Jalan Jemoreng-Passin project will be restructured to allow better water distribution in both directions.

Meanwhile, drains along the main road of Kampung Jemoreng, including culverts and smaller drains, will also be cleaned to prevent water stagnation.
