KOTA SAMARAHAN: Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) remains committed to helping the needy, including B40 students through the Early Learning Assistance or Bantu Awal Pembelajaran (BAP) programme.

YBR chairman Datuk Wira Megat Zulkarnain Tan Sri Omardin said, as an agency, they feel responsible to help students in need, especially pertaining to the current economic situation.

“We understand that there may be some parents who are currently facing some difficulties in sustaining their living, including family economic issues. This is also stressful and can affect children’s education.

“We will not allow such things to happen; because of that we also implement the approach to provide assistance according to our ability in easing the burden of students,” he said at the BAP YBR handover ceremony held at Dewan Zamrud, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) near here, yesterday.

He added that the BAP programme also received good response among students in Malaysia in view of the 4,400 applications received within a month.

“This is a big number and quite surprising as we also do not expect the applications to reach such number.

“Therefore, this also indicates that there are many who are facing difficult situations and of course Bank Rakyat and YBR will provide as much assistance as possible, especially to students,” he said.

Also present were Board of Trustees of YBR Datuk Mohd Shahrizal Sahri; Bank Rakyat Sarawak regional head Abdul Azis Rosli; UNIMAS vice chancellor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi; and UNIMAS deputy vice chancellor (Leadership and Development) Professor Datuk Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman.
