KUCHING: A construction waste spillage caused by a lorry along the road at the Padungan roundabout here led to temporary road closures for about an hour this morning (Feb 20).

The construction waste spill along the road at the Padungan roundabout.

The spillage resulted in temporary road closures on two routes leading to Padungan, namely from Jalan Padungan (SJKC Chung Hua No. 3) and Jalan Ban Hock (KMC Flats), to facilitate the cleaning operation by the workers.

Firefighters from the Padungan station carried out a thorough flushing of the remaining debris and stains from the spillage, while the police were present to manage traffic flow at the scene.

In a Facebook livestream, Wee mentioned that with the lunch hour approaching, their goal was to swiftly complete the cleanup, estimating it to take at least an hour.

“The police have stopped the lorry driver and fined him (for the spillage). The council will follow up with the compound issued to the driver.

“This is quite serious as it disrupts traffic flow, causing inconvenience and congestion. The council’s commercial unit should investigate this case and take action.”

Wee added that the council will bill the involved company for the clean-up.

He expressed appreciation to the police and firefighters for their collaboration in managing traffic flow and flushing the remaining debris in the affected area.
