SARIKEI: The Sarawak government is fully committed to achieving its goal of connecting all villages to cities and towns by 2030.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that the relevant ministry has conducted the research on the matter.

“We need to build 5,000 kilometres of roads (in this effort) and now we are looking at it and we will study it,” he said when officiating at the Gawai Unity Programme@Mupong at Mupong car park here today.

Uggah emphasised that the development in Sarawak was made possible by the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, as the state has its own source of income.

“Some of the bridges that have been approved by the federal government had been cancelled by the federal government. However, our Premier said we (the Sarawak government) will build it ourselves.

“It is not only talk but no action but we can see (the bridge under construction) and I visited the bridges recently,” he said.
