MIRI: Condolences continue to pour in for former Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang who breathed his last breath at Institute Jantung Negara (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur early yesterday morning. Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting expressed deep shock and surprise at the sudden demise of the former MP.

The Piasau assemblyman when contacted yesterday morning said Sarawak had lost a “gentleman politician”.

“His departure is really an irreparable loss for the state,” he said, adding he knew Ahmad for the past 30 years. “He was a dedicated MP. Despite his illness, he kept visiting his constituents. “I pray for an eternal peace of the departed soul and convey my deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.” Current Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni in his condolence message yesterday said the late Ahmad was a “true people’s person”.

“He was a hard-working and dedicated MP, I personally received a lot of political lessons from him. “Even in his retirement he continued to offer his views on local politics, which helped me a lot in my service delivery,” said Lukanisman.
