KUCHING: The Community Resource Centre situated behind the KMC Flats compound next to the old MAA Tower at Jalan Ban Hock is fully operational despite its closed door.
The Mayor of Kuching South City Council Datuk Wee Hong Seng clarified this in an official statement yesterday.
He explained that the door was closed to keep the premises cool.
“The council believes that an outdated picture circulating on social media has caused confusion among residents as the centre has been operational for several weeks,” said Wee.
“Contrary to the circulating misinformation, the centre has been serving as a hub for educational activities. A group of retired teachers has been voluntarily conducting tuition classes for children from nearby neighbourhoods every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 pm to 4 pm since May 2,”h e added.
During a recent visit, Wee said he personally inspected the centre and addressed the public through a live session, informing them of the facility’s existence and encouraging them to participate in its activities.
Although he was satisfied with the current amenities, the mayor acknowledged the need for certain improvements to enhance the comfort of those who visited the centre
Wee thanked Kuching Love Book Association for its generous donations, including story books, reference books, a water dispenser, air conditioner and computers.
The centre has a reading area, a children’s activity room and digital facilities, aimed at promoting digital literacy within the community.
Wee emphasised the importance of public support and encouraged residents, especially those in the vicinity, to visit the centre.
