KUCHING: The fundraising campaign for Alyster Liew Tian Hao, who is battling an eye ailment, has successfully reached its goal of RM195,000 in just 48 hours.

The Community Care Enrichment Programme (CCEP) Foundation, the organisation behind the fundraising campaign, expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate individuals from diverse backgrounds who contributed to the cause.

“With today’s successful fundraising for his medical expenses, General Hospital Shah Alam is currently arranging a time for Tian Hao to undergo treatment. He will receive cell therapy at the hospital and stem cell research centre. Experts and doctors recommend three treatment sessions, with each session spaced one month apart, spanning a total of three months,” stated a press release issued on today (Sept 14).

CCEP Foundation CEO Yee Poo Yoon expressed amazement at the rapid fundraising success, acknowledging the generosity of the people of East Malaysia. She extended her sincere gratitude to the donors for placing their trust in CCEP.

“More importantly, he will receive treatment in the near future because CCEP has already established direct contact with the supplier responsible for providing stem cells. This supplier has also been in touch with the ophthalmologists at General Hospital Shah Alam, and the hospital will arrange the treatment schedule for Alyster Liew Tian Hao,” she added.

Alyster, a 13-year-old student from Siburan, achieved excellent academic results and was selected to attend a government vocational school’s music programme earlier this year. However, his vision deteriorated suddenly in April, leading to a diagnosis of Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy. He had to discontinue his education and has been on medical leave for the past five months, seeking treatment for his condition.

Liew Sing Tau, Alyster’s father, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the CCEP Foundation and CCEP Kuching deputy CEO Chang Chee Hong for their assistance.

“Grateful for everyone’s tremendous help, and thankful for the kind-hearted donations. My family and I sincerely thank each and every one of you, and our appreciation knows no bounds. Your actions have shown us that there is still love in this world,” he remarked.
