Community lends help to 300 Chandi longhouse fire victims

SIBU: Sibu Jaya Community Association lent its support in terms of groceries to the fire victims of RumahChandi, Sungai Tau in Selangau.

The groceries were handed by the association chairman Benjamin Tian to representative of the longhouse residents, Roselyn Umpang at the association building in Sibu Jaya here yesterday.

In the fire incident that razed the 22-door longhouse on night of April 14, approximately 300 residents lost their homes.

A disabled woman known as Riti Jubi, 43 lost her life in the fire while her mother DiahBunyah, 80 suffered from burns on her back and left arm.

During the fire, the victim and her mother were the only ones who were at the longhouse as the other residents were paying their last respects to a resident who passed away at another longhouse.
