BEKENU: Local leaders gathered today for a briefing and explanation from the Public Works Department (PWD) regarding several delayed People’s Projects in the area.
Despite some stalled projects in the Subis District, the initiatives remain in place and will be implemented by the relevant government agencies.
Deputy Minister of Women, Community Wellbeing and Childhood Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus, said that community leaders, including Ketua Masyarakat, Ketua Kaum (KMKK), attended the session to engage directly with PWD officials.
“This briefing covers several projects, and we have brought in local leaders so they can better respond to inquiries from residents in their respective areas after hearing directly from PWD.
“We want these delayed projects to be expedited and implemented, and we hope PWD will continue to strive in carrying out their duties,” she said during a briefing on the implementation of People’s Projects at the Subis District Office here.
Rosey, who is also the Bekenu assemblywoman, added that providing clear explanations about upcoming development initiatives is crucial for the benefit of local residents.
Among the projects discussed were road access developments in Bekenu, Sepupok, and Batu Niah, as previously approved by the government.
Other topics included the extension of Kampung Rambai’s waterfront—500 metres for Phase 1 and 900 metres for Phase 2—as well as the proposed construction of a sailing sports training centre at Pantai Bungai Bekenu and a new Subis Community Hall.
Also present were Subis District Officer Norlila Ulis, officers from PWD Headquarters in Kuching and the Miri Division, Pemanca Dr. Ali Mudin, and local KMKK representatives.
