KOTA SAMARAHAN: Kelab Rukun Tetangga (KRT) Tabuan Laru chairman Kapitan Patrick Tan called for youths to join the neighbourhood group as it helps groom them into future community leaders.

“Youths and students must come forward and join neighbourhood groups so that they are able to learn from other members of the community,” he said in his speech during a dialogue and exhibition on drugs and dengue at SG Academy Sarawak here yesterday.

“They should mix with other members so that they could gain and learn new things,” he added.

Tan hoped that the students would be interested in joining KRT after they completed their studies so that they can serve the community. On organising the drugs and dengue dialogue and exhibition, Tan quipped, “This is the first time that we organised such a programme. During my 26 years in Saberkas, I have never organised this type of programme.”

“We will continue to organise programmes on drugs and dengue at other academic institutions,” he stressed.

“Not only will we target universities and colleges, both public and private, but we will also move to target secondary schools,” he explained.

He pointed out that it is crucial to have such programmes as the issue of drug abuse is on the rise as reported by the mass media.

Also present during the event were Transportation Assistant Minister and Parti Sarawak Bersatu deputy president Datuk Dr Jerip Susil; SG Academy Sarawak manager Novert Sullang; Kota Samarahan health officer head Shemyrul Sai Wahad; National Anti-Drug Agency Samarahan officer Ramli Bakar; and Kota Samarahan health officer Dr Nor Hazemi Hassan.
