KUCHING: The community in several rural areas of Bintangor will now benefit from cleaner drainage systems.

This follows the initiatives led by Sarikei MP Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, who urged the authorities to conduct cleaning activities on the concerned drains.

Sarikei Divisional Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) executed and supervised the cleaning and dredging operations.

Areas that have experienced improvements from these initiatives include Jalan Meradong/Pasi, Ulu Sungai Meradong, covering a stretch of 5 kilometres (km); Jalan Meradong in Bakong, with a length of 10.5km; Jalan KJD in Ulu Sungai Bakong, spanning 4km; and two drains in Sungai Padi, totaling 8km in length.

Huang, who also serves as the Deputy Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister, expressed hope that these measures would address flooding issues.

“The cleaning and dredging of the drain will also enhance the overall drainage system,” he said.

Recently, Sarikei Parliamentary Service Centre officer Gung Chiu Kion, who represented Huang, inspected several completed cleaning works.
