KUCHING: In the fight against the deadly Covid-19 pandemic, Tanoti House here has embarked on a community project to produce personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontliners.

Tanoti House is a congregation of Sarawakian women weavers and artisans dedicated to the production, promotion and proliferation of hand-crafted fabrics.

The founder of Tanoti House, Jacqueline Fong, together with her friends continued to buy the materials needed to produce PPE while waiting for special assistance from the government for the purpose.

She said Kuchingites are encouraged to contribute to produce these PPE, adding they can also do so as volunteers.

“Kuching people are so amazing. They are tired; their hands have blisters; they can’t sleep as they are rushing to finish the PPE. It’s amazing to see.

“Volunteers can be anybody and everybody who feels they should contribute to the fight against Covid-19.

“Most people are staying at home and they have plenty of time. This is something they can do,” said Jacqueline.

She said they had been supplying PPE to Sarawak General Hospital and Bau Hospital as well as several units of the State Health Department.

She added that there were also requests from other places around Kuching.

“We will continue and if they don’t have enough they can come to us for more.” Jacqueline said they produced more than 1,200 PPE in a day with the help of volunteers.
