PADAWAN: A man died while another severely injured when the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) at Mile 4, Jalan Kuching-Serian on Sunday (Aug 9).
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the accident occurred around 3am at Mile 4 traffic light after the victim, with his pillion rider, was believed to have ran through a red light.
“The driver of the MPV, along with his wife, was heading towards Kuching city centre when the motorcycle suddenly ran through a red light and collided with the vehicle.
“As a result, the victim, identified as Simon Gerahi, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH),” he said in a statement.
He added that the 26-year-old pillion rider sustained severe injuries to his left leg and was taken to SGH for further treatment while the occupants of the MPV were unharmed.
