MUKAH: Polytechnic Mukah Sarawak had always stressed on the importance of top results or achievements for its students.

According to the director of the college (fondly known as PMU) Associate Lt. Col. (PA) Abdubrani Yunus, they called it OBE (outcome based education) to produce much needed and sought after human capital.

“That is why we always want our students to score at least 3.0 College Grade Average (CGA). This year 47 percent of our students managed to achieve that score. This time around our target is 60%,” he said.

He also disclosed that they had come up with a special incentive for the boarding students who scored 3.5 CGA and above by allowing them to share accomodation at two persons per room.

“Besides going for CGA of 3.0 and above the students are required to master the English language,” he said.
“This is to maintain our marketable rate of above 90 percent and of course our target is to make it 100%. Mastering English is very important when it comes to entering the job markets.”

He stated this while officiating at the PMU Graduates Inspiration Week event for the December intake into the training centre which is about 14 kilometers from Mukah town centre yesterday.

Hence, he considered the new students fortunate as not all students who completed their secondary education and applied made it to the college.

“Many who applied could not make it due to certain conditions, and moreover the vacancies are very limited,” he said.

To him, higher learning was an investment that could improve one’s capability and capacity to compete for better jobs and bigger income.

Abdubrani then urged the students to be highly disciplined while studying at the college, and not to be influenced by bad elements from outside.

“Be cautious and smart when utilising the modern digital technology. Please don’t tarnish the good image of PMU and distance yourselves from those that could impact you and the school negatively,” he said.

On the inspiration week, he hoped the batch of new students would make full use of the three-day event to network among themselves, as it would be very helpful for them throughout their learning period at PMU.

“I thank the organiser of this very meaningful event for having invited me to officiate at the programme, and all the best to students in the December intake, and may their efforts and commitment become fruitful in the near future,” he said.

Also present at the event were PMU Student Affairs Department and Student Development head cum organising chairman, Associate Cpt. (PA) Hazatta Morshidi and senior lecturers and officers of the college located at Mukah District’s Education Hub (Judan Area).
