KUCHING: The collaboration between China and Sarawak has resulted in significant benefits, particularly in terms of economic development, trade, and human capital development for the state.
Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing said that companies in the People’s Republic of China continue to increase their investments in Sarawak.
For instance, he said, LONGi has established a production facility for photovoltaic monocrystalline silicon, contributing to the overall industrial chain, and is expected to invest over RM5 million in Sarawak this year.
“The Bank of China and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China have also provided a substantial number of job opportunities for local residents, with both banks employing nearly 100 percent local workers in the enterprises that they have invested in within the state,” he said during a courtesy call on Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian at the latter’s office, recently.
Meanwhile, Ouyang thanked the Sarawak government for its support in the development of Chinese-funded enterprises in the state.
Also present were Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang, and assemblymen Wilfred Yap (Kota Sentosa), Lo Khere Chiang (Batu Kitang), Johnny Pang (Tanjong Batu), Chieng Jin Ek (Bukit Assek), and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
