KUCHING: The Sarawak government is collaborating with the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network (APHN) in an effort to increase the promotion and provision of palliative care services in the state.
Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the Sarawak government and APHN would provide the first palliative care training for healthcare workers in the region.
“This is to take important steps towards improving the health care system of the people and ensure that both rural and urban patients receive the best healthcare.
“As I have always said that any Sarawakian, whether in rural or urban areas, you have the right to have equal access to healthcare.
“It is not just because you’re outside the city, you don’t have rights,” he said.
He said this during the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the state government and APHN recently.
During the signing of the MoU, APHN was represented by its chairman Dr Ednin Hamzah.
Dr Sim also said the training is under APHN’s main programme which is the Lien Collaborative programme for Palliative Care.
