LIMBANG: The upcoming Chinese New Year celebration symbolises harmony and unity among the diverse communities in Sarawak.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that the spirit of unity and harmony among different ethnic groups was the essence of the contribution presentation ceremony for the festival.

“We have a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society, but it is this spirit of unity and cooperation that forms the strength to develop the state and improve the well-being of the people,” he said.

He said this in his speech at the Chinese New Year contribution presentation ceremony for Limbang District 2025 yesterday.

The event, attended by 180 guests, was organised by the Chinese Community Leaders and Village Chiefs of Limbang District as well as the Pekan Neighborhood Watch (KRT), in collaboration with the Limbang Resident’s Office and District Office.

Awang Tengah also presented Chinese New Year contributions to 138 recipients, comprising persons with disabilities (PWD), single mothers, and senior citizens.

The ceremony was further enlivened with various activities, including lion dance performances, a symbolic Yee Sang ceremony, and the presentation of souvenirs to distinguished guests.

Meanwhile, speaking at the Chinese New Year Contribution Presentation Ceremony 2025 in Lawas, Awang Tengah reminded that unity and harmony are Sarawak’s primary assets for driving the region’s development.

He said the spirit of unity is the foundation for Sarawak’s strength to remain resilient, stable, and peaceful, thereby accelerating development and improving the people’s well-being.

The programme, organised by the Lawas Chinese Women’s Association in collaboration with the Lawas District Office, successfully brought together more than 300 guests from various walks of life.

At the same time, he announced that the Sarawak Budget 2025, amounting to RM15.8 billion, is the largest in the state’s history, with significant allocations for the welfare of the community, including the B40 group, single mothers, and PWDs.

The event also featured the disbursement of contributions to 193 recipients from vulnerable groups, followed by a photo session with the recipients.
