SIBU: Refurbishment work on one of the oldest mosques in Sarawak, the 160-year-old Al-Qadim Mosque, is expected to be completed during the fasting month this year.
Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, wife of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, visited the mosque to get an update on the interior decoration project.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), since the doors and other interior decorations have been specially ordered from Indonesia, the project is expected to be fully completed during the fasting month this year.
Shortly after, Juma’ani also attended the Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) Cares presentation programme to 1,000 B40 civil servants for the North, Central and Southern zones at RH Hotel here on Saturday.
Juma’ani, who is also MAKSAK Sarawak Women Section advisor, presented cash vouchers to seven human resource officers who represented 75 PBT staff in the Central Zone.
The chief minister has contributed RM100,000 to the MAKSAK Cares to fund the MAKSAK Cares Local Government Authority (PBT) Phase 2 which will be managed by the MAKSAK Sarawak Women Section’s Welfare and Social Bureau.
The MAKSAK Cares programme is a charity activity to help improve the quality of life of the low-income group as well as ensure that no civil servant is left out from enjoying the benefits of government assistance.
Earlier, Juma’ani also paid an official visit to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Abang Ali, in Sibu to see for herself the two-storey administration building that had just been completed.
The state government has contributed RM2.5 million to the construction of the RM3.5 million building.
