KUCHING: The decision to name Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates for the coming state election is the prerogative of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg as the party’s president.
Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said whether a person will or will not contest in the coming state election as well as the distribution of seats, are all up to the party president and the highest leadership to decide.
“As the people’s representatives, we will continue to work hard to represent the people in our respective constituencies.
“The decision on who will contest in this constituency is the prerogative of the party’s highest leadership,” she told reporters after officiating at the completion of upgrading works costing RM100,000 at Surau Darul Nur Dini in Kampung Sungai Midin here on Sunday.
Asked whether she would defend her seat, the Samariang assemblywoman said she would do her best to defend it if she was given the chance.
Sharifah Hasidah also said that the GPS leaders had been taking care of their respective constituencies and she believed that the Samariang constituents could attest to it, judging by the physical development projects brought in by the party.
“I believe the people are smart enough to see who they should put their support onto. They will know.
“They can see the various efforts by the GPS state government in developing the state and the Samariang constituency especially,” she added.
At the function, Sharifah Hasidah presented a RM10,000 grant to the surau’s management committee for its activities.
