MIRI: Sarawak has maintained its strong economic standing, with the state receiving a clean financial audit from the Auditor-General.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the recognition reflects the state’s effective and professional financial management over the years.

“The Auditor-General has evaluated our financial management over the years and found no flaws. This reflects the professionalism in how we manage the state.

“Among the five states in Malaysia with the highest exports, Sarawak is on that list. Additionally, poverty in the state has shown a noticeable decline,” he said.

Abang Johari said this during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Sarawak Northern Zone Delegates Meeting here yesterday.

Abang Johari added that Sarawak recently achieved a significant milestone by exporting 20,000 tonnes of methanol produced in Bintulu, with a daily production capacity of 5,000 tonnes.

He assured that plans are in motion to expand into green methanol production, aligning with global sustainability initiatives.

Additionally, Abang Johari expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s role in fostering collaboration with Japan.

“Discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba focused on producing green ammonia as an alternative maritime fuel, with Sarawak playing a key role.

“Ships are now using ammonia instead of oil, which means bunkering will be carried out in Sarawak. This is a new technology developed by Japan and Malaysia, and Sarawak is playing its role in this initiative,” he added.

As such, the Premier reaffirmed Sarawak’s commitment to achieving developed status by 2030, stressing the importance of stability and progress through strong governance.

He expressed confidence in the state’s future and the contributions of its people toward sustainable development.

“Our future is bright, and I hope PBB will become a jewel in Sarawak’s development,” said Abang Johari, who is also PBB president.
