KUCHING: Now that 2025 is here, Kuching City FC are eager to claw their way back into form and momentum in the Malaysian Super League.
Currently sitting 6th at the league table with 18 points — four wins, six draws, and four losses — the Cats were met with mixed fortunes this season.
However, before diving into the second half of the league campaign, the team are gearing up for a series of friendly matches.
Kuching City are set to face off against Brunei DPMM at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium yesterday followed by a match against Pilihan Miri at Miri Stadium on next Monday.
Head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak had been pushing his players hard in training, ensuring they’re fit and sharp for the challenges ahead in the new year.
Despite a quarter-final exit in the Malaysia Cup by a loss against Sabah FC, the Cats have managed to get the Sarawak State Stadium buzzing once again, with football enthusiasts filling the stands.
While the team are showing promising signs, the roar of the Sarawak State Stadium, full of passionate supporters, was not quite where it was once.
There is, however, optimism that the stadium will once again be alive with the energy and fervour of the crowd.
Throughout the season, Aidil had pointed out numerous times that his players needed to get clinical in front of the goal post.
It was the fine edge that required a small adjustment — taking those opportunities whenever they would arise.
As the Cats enter 2025 with new hopes, sharpening their finishers will be key for a turnaround in future fixtures. By converting those near-misses into goals, their path to glory will set ablaze a clearer pathway.
The players, who showed high spirits in their training sessions, were aware that belief was key.
After all, it is the heart, the fire and spirit that makes the game come alive.
