MIRI: A civil servant here lost RM12,000 after he became victim to a love scam.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said a report was lodged by the victim, in his 20’s, on Tuesday.

Alexson said the victim was fleeced by an unknown woman whom he befriended thorough an Instagram account.

Subsequently, they interacted via WhatsApp.

“The victim only realised he was duped after the suspect kept on asking for money from him, of which during that process, he had deposited cash amounting to RM12,000,” Alexson said.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
