SIBU: Chinese traditional medicine has gained wider acceptance in the world today, according to Sibu Drug Merchants Association (SDMA) chairman Wong Teck Tang.
Wong said why this is so is because Chinese traditional medicine has undergone a lot of improvements while practitioners have attained professional standards of international stature.
“The World Health Organisation has affirmed the special status of Chinese medicine, thanks to the numerous academic exchanges and research carried out in the industry,” he said at SDMA’s 66th anniversary celebration dinner cum installation of new executive committee at a leading hotel here Saturday night.
Wong said it was his hope that practitioners and stakeholders would continue to look at new potentials in terms of the efficacy and safety of Chinese medicine.
“In this digital era, Chinese medicine must meet the demands of times, modernisation and scientifically-inclined world community.
“Chinese medicine is getting more and more settled in the world, we just need to do more, not just for acceptance but competitiveness in the healthcare industry,” Wong said.
Wong, who was officially installed as the new chairman of SDMA, called on practitioners and industry players to cooperate in combating inferior and counterfeit products.
“We must all work to provide the best reliable services not only to benefit ourselves but our clients and markets.
“We must all help to enhance the international reputation of Chinese medicine,” he said.
The evening also saw the installation of Ting Ka Hua as the new president of the Federation of Chinese Physicians and Medicine Dealers Associations of Malaysia (FCPMDAM).
Wong and Hua will serve for the 2019-2020 term.
