KUCHING: Social activist Manjeet Sidhu was installed as the charter president of the Lions Club of Kuching Unity in a grand ceremony yesterday.
Manjeet, who recently received the ‘Anugerah Kasih Wanita Harmony’ award from the Prime Minister in conjunction with International Women’s Day, is well-known for her charity work.
She has been actively involved with Pertubuhan Pembangunan Insan Sarawak (PPIS) and hopes to extend her outreach to more targeted groups in rural areas.
“I hope to reach out to more targeted groups in the rural areas and help out in as many ways as possible,” she said.
The event, attended by 180 people from Lions Clubs in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, and Sarawak, featured distinguished guests including Lions Club of Kuching Unity district governor Kapitan Ronny Hiew Ah Choi.
“As Lions, let us help to make their lives better in any way that we can. Let us join our hands, work together, and contribute our share of services to brighten their days. Let us continue to uphold our ‘we serve’ spirit to provide meaningful humanitarian services to the community,” said Hiew.Rega
rding Manjeet’s achievement in chartering her own club, Hiew said starting new Lions Clubs would bring communities together and offer service-minded individuals the opportunity to make a difference.
“As a Lion, you will join a local group of service-minded men and women who are working together to strengthen your community. You will also be a part of something bigger – a worldwide network of 1.4 million dedicated volunteers in over 49,000 clubs,” he said.
During the event, 28 new members were installed as Chartered Lions Members. Manjeet and others received a membership certificate and a lapel pin.
The evening concluded with lucky draws and an auction of paintings donated by Narong Dauns, aimed at fundraising for the club’s projects.
