KUCHING: Hope Place representatives were moved to tears when they visited a nine-year-old girl in Asajaya recently.
Shasya Nurizzati Abdullah suffers from severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) due to a car accident seven years ago.
“In 2016, Shasya and her family had an accident. Her father, Mohd Alwi, suffered a back injury and even now, working as a construction worker, is unable to carry heavy loads.
“Her mother, Siti Annur, suffered a broken leg and arm. According to her, doctors removed a supporting metal rod in her leg earlier this year after seven years.
“She is still very vulnerable and weak. Despite being unable to walk or stand up for long periods, she still tries her best to care for her only child at home,” said the charity body.
Hope Place said that although Shasya holds a disability card and the Social Welfare Department (JKM) had given them a suction machine, the family can’t afford a special milk powder supplement that she needs. It’s too expensive for them.
Shasya is currently on tube feeding.
“Aware of the family’s predicament, Hope Place is providing her with the milk and as well as baby diapers regularly.”
