PHNOM PENH: The national table tennis pair of Chee Chaoming- Brady Chin beamed with satisfaction as they delivered the country’s 33rd gold medal in men’s doubles (TT9-play standing but mildly imbalanced) at the 2023 ASEAN Para Games (APG) last night.

The unseeded pair had no problem defeating the Filipinos Linard Combras and Benedicto Hernandez 11-8, 11-7, 11-8 in the final at the Table Tennis Hall of the Morodok Techo National Stadium.

Chaoming, admitted that did not expect to be able to pull off a sensational surprise as it was his first time out playing as a pair at the 12th edition of the APG.

“I’m proud that this gold could be achieved to meet Malaysia’s target because, in the semi-final, my game was not good, so I controlled my emotions in the final.

“But the most unexpected thing was when I won playing with a young player and won two golds with him (Brady),” he said.

Brady, who looked teary as soon as he sealed the victory, said the prayers of his family in Shah Alam, Selangor, were answered when he struck gold on the international stage.

“My family has always been incredibly supportive, like now even when my brother is affected by Covid-19, he is still glued to watching my games online,” he said.
