MUKAH: Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib has called on everyone to maintain harmonious ties to progress into a stronger and more competitive community.

In this regard she said it was important that people celebrate their differences with respect for each other.

Hanifah, who is Mukah MP, made the call at the opening of the Mukah Christmas Festival 2024, at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja, here, Saturday night.

She said the festival was not only meant to celebrate Christmas but also to strengthen the spirit of unity among each other.

In this regard, Hanifah expressed her appreciation to the Association of Sarawak Churches Mukah Branch and all parties who together made this festival a success.

In the meantime, she also presented prizes to the winners of the decorated car competition and the creative contingent competition.

In the decorated car competition, Persatuan Gospel Mukah managed to win the title taking home RM500 in cash.

The runner-up was BEM Elim and third place went to RC Mukah.

In the creative contingent competition, the winner was  the Methodist Church for a cash prize of RM500.

The Roman Catholic Church finished second and third place went to Anglican Mukah.

Also present at the festival were Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine and Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi.
