SHAH ALAM: Carlsberg Malaysia has unveiled its latest artist-edition packaging inspired by Borneo’s rich cultural legacy, celebrating the bond between the land and its people through intricate rice art.

Carlsberg Smooth Draught will carry the unique designs throughout the year, while Carlsberg Danish Pilsner, due to popular demand, makes a limited-time return this April and May.

Now in its fifth consecutive year, the artist-edition series highlights Carlsberg’s dedication to honouring local traditions through thoughtful design and craftsmanship.

This year’s ‘By locals, For locals’ edition showcases four MesmeRICEsing designs by Sabahan artist, Nelson Lip, and Sarawakian artist, T. Bagak, who have transformed the cans and bottles into canvases of Bornean pride.

Each beer variant features two distinct designs, one representing Sabah and the other Sarawak, each highlighting iconic symbols from the respective states.

Carlsberg Smooth Draught’s packaging features Sabah’s majestic Mount Kinabalu and Sarawak’s proud hornbill perched above a traditional longhouse.

According to Carlsberg Malaysia Marketing Director, Olga Pulyaeva, Carlsberg pays tribute to the harvest-centric spirit of Gawai and Kaamatan by celebrating unity, gratitude and local pride through artist collaborations in Sabah and Sarawak.

“The essence of Gawai and Kaamatan is deeply tied to the harvest and rice.

“Carlsberg honours that heritage, embracing the unity, gratitude and celebration at the heart of these festivals.

“We’re thrilled to once again ‘Raikan Kebanggaan Sabah dan Sarawak’ by collaborating with two talented local artists who truly capture the region’s spirit,” Olga said.

From 15 to 18 May 2025, Carlsberg will bring this celebration to life at the Carls Harvest Pesta in Farley Kuching.

The four-day festival will offer a vibrant blend of traditional and contemporary festivities, including live performances, cultural music and dance, interactive experiences such as rice art bracelet-making, resin crafting, and mixology workshops at the CarlsBar.

Festival-goers can also enjoy Bornean delicacies and fusion cuisine, with free Tuak Bombs served every two hours and a complimentary Carlsberg can for early arrivals.

In conjunction with the launch, Carlsberg fans can collect limited-edition MesmeRICEsing plates, featuring motifs from Sabah and Sarawak through in-store promotions while stocks last.
