PADAWAN: A local man’s attempt to drive off another’s man pick-up truck, was foiled by a swift police response yesterday (Mar 25).
Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi said the owner reported his vehicle stolen at Mile 3, Jalan Penrissen at around 10.30 am.
Following the report, police immediately alerted nearby patrol units to track down the vehicle.
“An hour later, at 11.30 am, the stolen vehicle was intercepted by a MPV team along Jalan Kuching-Serian.
“The 27-year-old suspect was arrested and the stolen vehicle was recovered,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.
Meanwhile, Serian police chief Supt Freddy Bian when contacted, confirmed that the arrest was carried out by Serian’s MPV team and Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
“The suspect attempted to flee, leading to a brief scuffle before he was subdued,” he said.
Both the suspect and the stolen vehicle were handed over to Padawan district police headquarters (IPD).
