SIMUNJAN: Two individuals, including an 11-year-old girl, were killed in a road accident involving a car and a lorry on Jalan Gedong, Simunjan, this afternoon (Feb 14).
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received an emergency call about the incident at 1.26 pm before dispatching firefighters from the Simunjan and Serian Fire and Rescue Stations to the scene.
Reports stated that the accident involved a Proton Wira Aeroback and a 10-tonne lorry carrying an oil load.
“Upon arrival at the scene at 1.41 pm, firefighters found that Sim Geok Chiew, 37, the driver of the Proton Wira, and an 11-year-old girl, Alisia Sim, had died at the scene.
“Two other passengers sustained serious injuries. One was transported to Simunjan Hospital by a Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) ambulance, while the other was taken to the hospital by the EMRS Serian unit,” it said.
Meanwhile, the lorry driver was reported to be safe and uninjured.
Preliminary investigations revealed that three passengers of the Proton Wira were ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Firefighters worked to extricate the driver using a stretcher before handing over the victims to medical personnel.
