KUCHING: OpenAI has confirmed a significant outage affecting its ChatGPT generative AI chatbot, impacting users globally.
The disruption began around 7 pm Eastern Time (ET), with users reporting difficulties accessing the service and encountering unusual error messages.
OpenAI acknowledged the issue via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We’re experiencing an outage right now. We have identified the issue and are working to roll out a fix. Sorry and we’ll keep you updated!”
In addition to ChatGPT, other OpenAI services, including the Sora video generator and API, are also down.
The company’s status page indicated that they are actively working on solutions, noting that while API and ChatGPT traffic is showing signs of partial recovery, Sora remains unavailable.
Users have reported issues logging into the platform and receiving error messages during API calls.
As of the latest updates, OpenAI continues to work towards full remediation of the outage, with some traffic recovery noted for ChatGPT and the API, but no estimated time for complete restoration has been provided.
