KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) will not be able to pose a threat to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) even if it works with other opposition parties in Sarawak in the upcoming 15th General Election.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he was not trying to be arrogant but it was true that DAP had failed to deliver after they won in the GE14 in 2018 before it collapsed in 2020.

Karim said DAP and Pakatan Harapan had made similar statements – claiming they wanted to bring down the ruling government to save the country before the GE14.

“The people believed that and voted for them and they won in GE14. But, (voters) only to realise that the DAP and PH were no better than the government they removed.”

“Now, we are hearing the same nice rhymes and statements from them again as the GE15 looms …. But, we will not be cheated again,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

The Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister was commenting on DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen’s recent statement that the opposition party recognised the importance of the upcoming parliamentary election to reset the nation from falling into a path of incompetency, religious extremism and even the return of grand kleptocrats into the highest positions of the country.

Chong said DAP was open to cooperation with all opposition parties in Sarawak to take on Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and GPS) in the GE15.

Joseph Salang Gandum

Meanwhile, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum also shared the same sentiment – doubting the capability of the opposition parties in Sarawak.

“DAP had their opportunity but what difference did they make?” he asked.

“I don’t think the voters have forgotten the nightmare they had during the 22 months when PH was the federal government,” he added.
