KUALA LUMPUR: The recent red paint splashing incident at a KK Mart outlet, following a controversy surrounding the sale of chicken ham, has drawn widespread attention and concern.

The incident, which involved unknown individuals vandalising the mini-market, has been condemned as an act of provocation that threatens to disrupt the nation’s social harmony.

Member of the National Unity Advisory Council, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye voiced his support for National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang’s call for calm and restraint.

“The red paint splashing incident is unacceptable and deals a blow to the very heart of our harmonious way of life. The incident is an act of provocation, and if unchecked, could lead to dire consequences,” he said through a statement today (Jan 24).

The matter involving a ham and cheese sandwich sold at the outlet is currently under police investigation. Authorities have urged the public to allow the investigation to proceed without interference.

He stressed the importance of resolving sensitive issues through proper channels to prevent further disharmony. He called on Malaysians to avoid provocative actions, engage in respectful dialogue, and prioritise unity over division.

“We must choose harmony and unity over division, engage in respectful dialogue, and reject provocation, violence, and extremism in whatever form,” he added.

The incident serves as a reminder of the need to uphold mutual respect and peaceful coexistence to maintain Malaysia’s multicultural harmony. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
