SIBU: The community, police and local authorities need to join hands in combating unhealthy activities, especially drug abuse in the neighbourhood.
A political secretary to the Premier, Syed Azmee Syed Junaidi said the community must become the eyes and ears of the authorities because it is impossible for the authorities such as the police to carry out 24-hour monitoring in the neighbourhood.
“The issue of unhealthy activities such as drug abuse must be nipped in the bud because I know that a family can be damaged if there are drug addicts among the members.
“Therefore, I call on members of the community present at this event not to be afraid to report any of these activities. Together we save our young people from falling prey of the menace,” he said when representing Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee at the Jelajah Ramadan Sibufm here over the weekend.
He hoped that community cooperation with the police and local authorities could be extended to various other aspects such as security, monitoring unhealthy activities and the cleanliness of the residential area.
The Jelajah Ramadan Sibufm 2023 was held in conjunction with the 77th anniversary of Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).
At the event, a total of 160 food baskets donated by the Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association, Liansin and Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak were distributed to the needy.
Some 1,000 packets of ‘bubur lambuk’ were also distributed to those present.
