KUCHING: The contractor for the Jalan Matang construction project has been urged to speed up work to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
Tupong assemblyman, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, emphasised that although the construction is currently progressing according to schedule, the main concern is the safety of road users as the route is a primary roadway.
“I have requested the Public Works Department (PWD) and the contractor to accelerate the construction so that it can be completed ahead of schedule.
“Our concern is the safety of road users, and we also understand their worries regarding the current road conditions.
“We are continuously monitoring the progress and have asked PWD to provide us with regular updates,” he stressed.
He stated this when met by reporters at the Emart Matang Ramadan Bazaar here today.
According to the schedule, he said, the project is expected to be fully completed by August next year.
However, he hopes that the road can still be used temporarily.
“We hope that the road can remain open to help ease traffic flow for the public.
“Our suggestion is for them to prioritise the completion of drainage, lighting and wiring first,” he added.
