DEBAK: Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam fully supported the Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union’s (KGBS) proposal in urging the Education Ministry (MoH) to give autonomy to the Sarawak government.

This autonomy pertains to related educational matters.

According to Razi, the shortage of teachers in Sarawak remains unsolved and as such the state should be empowered to assist in recruitment and training of teachers in addressing the state’s shortage.

“Time goes on, but this issue is still unresolved.

“If this problem continues, I am sure it will have a negative impact on the progress of education in Sarawak.

“Therefore, it is our hope that the MoH will consider to give autonomy in education to Sarawak through the Education, Science and Technological Research Ministry immediately,” said the former teacher.

Earlier on May 3, Education, Science and Technological Minister Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong informed that Sarawak was short of about 3,000 teachers.
