KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has raised concerns about the poor condition of public infrastructure in parts of his constituency, urging the relevant authorities to take swift and effective action.

During a recent ground visit to Lorong 3, Jalan Stakan, and the Kota Sentosa Market, Yap was joined by community leaders Penghulu Lai Boon Khee and Kapitan Lee Tho Fung.

The trio inspected several locations where residents had lodged complaints, and their observations confirmed these concerns — including substandard road repairs, neglected amenities, and dangerously leaning utility poles.

“The maintenance of public facilities, funded by taxpayers, must be held to the highest standards.

“Unfortunately, what we’ve seen points to a failure in oversight and routine maintenance,” Yap said, stressing that the public has a right to expect accountability, efficiency, and prompt action from the relevant authorities.

He called for an immediate audit of public services in the area and outlined three key actions he believes must be prioritised: urgent repair and long-term maintenance of deteriorating amenities, implementation of monitoring systems to prevent recurrence, and performance reviews to hold those responsible accountable.

“Residents should not have to tolerate repeated negligence. An efficient public service is not a privilege; it’s a right,” he said.

Yap reaffirmed that he and the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa branch will continue to press for solutions, despite the challenges ahead.
