KUCHING: A Cabinet paper will be submitted to ensure that development projects in Sarawak are tailored to the state’s specific needs, which may differ from those in Peninsular Malaysia.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stressed the need for clear policy direction from the Cabinet to ensure the effective implementation of projects in Sarawak, particularly in remote areas.
He said the proposed model for Sarawak could also be adopted in Sabah, especially for rural development.
“For instance, in the construction of schools in remote areas, as highlighted by the Ministry of Education, various challenges arise, including budget constraints, a shortage of contractors, logistical issues, manpower limitations, and building material supply.
“As a result, some projects cannot proceed, are delayed, or even canceled.
“A clear direction from the Cabinet is needed to address these issues specifically and ensure the smooth implementation of projects in the state,” he said after co-chairing the 1st/2025 Sarawak State Development Action Council (MTPNG) Meeting with Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today (Mar 24).
In a Facebook statement, Fadillah said various strategic approaches have been discussed to accelerate project implementation and ensure that the people of Sarawak benefit from these initiatives.
Fadillah, who is also the Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) Minister, stressed the importance of enhancing the technical capacity of implementing agencies to ensure that each project is executed smoothly and effectively.
