MIRI: Miri Civil Defence Department (APM) personnel were summoned on Saturday to catch a meter-long adult python in South Lake Bandar Baru Permyjaya.
According to Miri APM officer in-charge Captain (PA) Usman Harto said, three APM personnel led by Corporal (PA) Mariani Eddy were despatched to a house in South Lake upon receiving a distressed call on the discovery around 6.20am. It took them just 17 minutes to catch the snake and take it away.
Captain Usman disclosed that the python was spotted in the middle of the road in front of the caller’s house.
“Fearing that the reptile might slither into his house, the 38- year-old man immediately called APM for help,” he explained.
Less than three hours later, at 9.03am, that same morning, another Miri APM team led by Sergeant Chia Ramlee was rushed to another house in Taman Tunku upon being informed that a king cobra was spotted at the kitchen of the house.
“The caller’s mother earlier saw the cobra slithering outside the kitchen that morning when she was about to cook, and immediately her 22-year-old son called us up for assistance,” said Usman.
They succeeded in removing the one meter-long cobra from the house in less than 10 minutes.
