Bursa Malaysia remains mixed at mid-morning but key index higher

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia remained mixed at mid-morning today amid cautious sentiment ahead of US President Donald Trump’s tariff announcement later today, but the key index stayed up.

At 11.05 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 5.65 points to 1,519.30 from Friday’s close of 1,513.65. The benchmark index had opened 3.49 points higher at 1,517.14.

The market breadth was negative with decliners outpacing gainers 555 to 204, while 319 counters were unchanged, 1,270 untraded, and nine suspended.  Turnover stood at 1.24 billion shares worth RM575.22 million.

Among the heavyweight counters, Maybank jumped 14 sen to RM10.26, TNB bounced 28 sen to RM13.66 and Hong Leong Bank bagged 24 sen to RM20.38. CelcomDigi gained five sen to RM3.53, Public Bank eased two sen to RM4.40, IHH Healthcare fell seven sen to RM6.85 and Press Metal declined three sen to RM5.01.

Among the actives, Bina Puri increased one sen to 33.5 sen, Sapura Energy was flat at 4.5 sen, T7 Global plunged 14 sen to 36 sen while Kinergy Advancement edged down half-a-sen to 32.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index garnered 8.81 points to 11,356.85, the FBMT 100 Index gained 18.79 points to 11,121.91 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index dipped 21.97 points to 11,102.44.

The FBM 70 Index shrank 62.20 points to 16,213.89 and the FBM ACE Index went down by 51.01 points to 4,757.91. 

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index surged 136.89 points to 18,521.10 and the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 1.39 points to 151.88.  The Energy Index shed 7.87 points to 750.11 and the Plantation Index gave up 28.15 points to 7,409.58. — BERNAMA
