SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek Service Centre will host its annual Chinese New Year open house celebration at its service centre on Feb 2.
According to Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, a total of 1,500 attendees are expected to join the open house, which is scheduled to start at 6 pm.
“We have already prepared some goodies for the attendees. A lucky draw session will also be held, alongside various performances and activities,” he said during a press conference at the service centre here yesterday (Jan 26).
Among the lucky draw prizes are a refrigerator, washing machine, smartphone, microwave, fan, and hampers.
“Please come early and register for the lucky draw at the booth provided, as we will only accept registrations until 7 pm.
“It is important to note that winners must be present on the night to claim their prizes and must bring their identification cards for verification,” he said.
He emphasised that organising such events helps strengthen relationships among various communities and appreciate the unique culture and traditions of each group.
“In Sarawak, in particular, the unity among different races is something special and unique. Therefore, we welcome all races to join our Chinese New Year celebration at Bukit Assek constituency,” he said.
Meanwhile, when asked about the reason for holding the programme at night instead of the usual morning or afternoon time, Chieng explained that this timing allows more people to attend and enjoy the performances and programmes.
“The nighttime atmosphere is livelier and more comfortable for everyone to celebrate together,” he said.
Chieng hopes that with the arrival of this Lunar New Year, the country will achieve prosperity, unity, and happiness for everyone.
