KUCHING: The book titled Bujang Berani by James Ritchie stands out for its unique storytelling and presentation of Sarawak’s veteran fighters from the past.

Ritchie noted that the book sheds light on lesser-known stories of heroes, even within Sarawak, and immortalises these figures in a distinctive way.

“The uniqueness of the book lies not only in its storytelling but also in the way the pages are arranged.
“Readers can quickly navigate through the contents section to find important sections they want to know about,” he said during the launching ceremony of the book at the Sarawak Club here on today (May 21).

Ritchie added that the book was not produced quickly; extensive research and material collection were necessary to complete his work.

The launch of the book was officiated by the Head of State, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

“This book is also a token of appreciation to our past heroes or fighters,” he added.

The launch of the book was officiated by the Head of State, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar. The event also saw the presence of Wan Junaidi’s wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, and Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.

Veteran journalist Ritchie’s work is compelling as it highlights the stories of Sarawak’s veteran fighters who faced life-threatening battles in the past.

These veterans include members of the Sarawak branch of the Malaysian Ex-Police Association (PBPM) and the Sarawak branch of the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM).

The book also features individuals who received honours such as the George Cross Medal by the Queen of England, the Bravery Medal, and the Panglima Gagah Berani medal.

For the record, Bujang Berani has been published in around 150 copies and is sold for RM150 each.
