MIRI: Two brothers were found drowned at Lutong Beach today (Dec 12) after being swept away by strong currents while bathing.

The incident happened around 2 pm when the brothers and their cousin went to the beach to bathe after a fishing activity.

Unfortunately, the brothers were caught in a current and disappeared underwater. Their 18-year-old cousin immediately alerted the authorities for help.

Firefighters from Lutong station were quickly dispatched to the scene, about 9km away, to commence the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

At 2.40 pm, rescuers found the older brother — 23-year-old Muhd Nur Fadilah Zamri — stranded on the beach. Ten minutes later, his younger brother — 16-year-old Muhammad Faris Zamri — was discovered floating about 30 metres from the shore.

Paramedics pronounced both victims dead at the scene, and their bodies were handed over to the police for further action.

The rescue operation concluded at 4.03 pm.
