SERIAN: The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Serian District and MRC SMK Serian organised community service events at the Serian Hospital and Mawar Haemodialysis Centre recently in conjunction with the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The carolling team led by Phang Nyuk Lan, Cherilyn Vong, Alexander Mandi and Katherine Hudson Didet visited the Physiotherapy Ward, Female Ward, Children’s Ward, Male Ward, Maternity Ward, Haemodialysis Unit, Outpatient Department, Diabetic & Hypertension Patients Department and Pharmacy Unit at the Serian Hospital.
The team also visited Mawar Haemodialysis Centre near the MRC Serian HQ. 40 Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) members and the Youth members from SMK Serian formed the choir team.
Besides carolling at the wards, the team also gave out 84 Christmas presents to the patients in the wards, 120 small gifts to the outpatients, 100 gifts to the Diabetic & Hypertension Patients and 18 gifts to Mawar Haemodialysis Centre. The gifts were all sponsored by MRC Serian District.
According to the O/C Youth of Serian District and Teacher in Charge of SMK Serian Youth Unit, Phang Nyuk Lan, the events aimed to expose the members to more community services, improve their awareness of the importance being a volunteer in any community service and give moral support to the patients.
“This is one of our annual activities mainly for our youth members (secondary school students) and volunteers,” she added.
