KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central deputy chairman Andrew Victor Nub has urged Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin to start working on new initiatives for the benefit of his constituents.

He was responding to a recent remark by Willie claiming that the earth-breaking ceremony for the new Siburan clinic was one of his achievements as a Pakatan Harapan (PH) MP.

Andrew said the Siburan project was initiated and approved under the previous government during the late Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit’s tenure.

The project was in the final stage — issuance of tender to begin construction prior to the 14th General Election— when PH came into power.

“Willie should have acknowledged the contributions by his predecessor, the late Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit, and the previous government, in bringing the clinic to Siburan.

“However, this fact was left out by the PH government and they instead claimed the glory for themselves,” said Andrew.

Andrew, who is also Mambong SUPP Youth chief, pointed out that a health clinic had always been the desire of residents in the Siburan area.

“Thus, the decision by the federal government in ensuring the continuity of this project is a right move.

“Nonetheless, we look forward to seeing our new Puncak Borneo MP come forward with his genuine initiative, so as not to disappoint the people in Puncak Borneo and Sarawakians as a whole.

“To show his sincerity in representing Sarawakians in Parliament, we expect him to speak out and fight for what is rightfully Sarawak’s, promised by PH in their GE14 campaign, for example, health and education autonomy, giving back 20 per cent oil royalty and 50 per cent tax collection etc,” said Andrew.

He added: “We hope to see more funds channelled to Sarawak and I hope Willie is able to do so for Puncak Borneo as what his predecessor had done during his term.”
