SEBUYAU: The local people are eagerly waiting for the proposed Batang Lupar Bridge to be completed in four years’ time.
When Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at the earth-breaking ceremony for the bridge today (March 23) many people have already visualised how the infrastructure will benefit them.
Understandably, the excited locals who attended the ceremony had a lot to say about the project.

I frequently go to Sri Aman to visit my families using the ferry services. If I use a car, I have to queue for a long time. Therefore, I can’t wait for the bridge to be completed so that I no longer have to queue at the ferry point.

I use a motorbike go to Maludam two or three times a week. Although I do not have to queue up for as long as those using cars, I still worry for my safety. After the bridge has been built, my journeys will be faster and safer.

Temenggong Chek Bujang, Samarahan
The Batang Lupar Bridge has been the dream of Samarahan residents as it will reduce their travel time and cease our dependence on ferry services. Once the bridge has been completed, we might still retain the ferries for Triso Island as a possible tourism product.

We want to convey our appreciation to the state government for taking care of our needs. I hope that once the roads and this bridge have been completed, other developments will also be implemented. We also hope that internet access can be improved especially in our village.

This new bridge will mean that we no longer need to use the ferry to cross the river. It will be very convenient for us especially the villagers who want to sell their agricultural produce. Therefore, I thank the state government for this infrastructure development.

I am very happy to see such a big and long bridge built here. We won’t have to wait for the ferries anymore, and I believe it will greatly benefit us in the future. I foresee that our socio-economy will improve as we can go to other places quickly.
